Westate Mining Supplies developed the Tyre Chain Spindle System (TCSS) to address two critical challenges in the mining sector: minimizing vehicle downtime and improving safety during the fitment of Large Tyre Protection Chains on heavy off-the-road (OTR) vehicles.

This industry-leading solution allows just one spotter and one operator to efficiently and safely fit protection chains. The process is designed so that all work is performed at waist height and away from the vehicle, significantly reducing manual handling risks and improving operator safety.

The tyre chain is pre-fitted to the tyre and rim while off the vehicle and securely stored in a dedicated heavy-duty rack. When a truck arrives for standard tyre replacement, the pre-assembled tyre and chain are ready for immediate installation—eliminating the need for time-consuming on-vehicle chain fitting.

Prior to the development of the TCSS, the process of fitting chains could take up to 10 hours, significantly impacting operational productivity. With the TCSS, this time has been reduced to under one hour. This dramatic improvement not only boosts efficiency but also enhances overall site safety.
